A media briefing was held at the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 to officially announce the Committee Members to local Thunder Bay media.

Bob Hartley, Chair of the Lakehead Source Protection Committee answers questions from the Thunder Bay media. The object of the media briefing was to outline and clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Source Protection Committee, Source Protection Authority and Conservation Authority to implement the process for developing a Source Protection Plan for Municipal residential drinking water in the Lakehead Source Protection Area.
The Committee
begins work on the development of a Source Protection Plan to protect the sources of Municipal residential drinking water within the Lakehead Source Protection Area.
The Lakehead Source Protection Committee will oversee a science-based planning process to develop a Source Protection Plan (SPP) to protect sources of Municipal drinking water in the Lakehead Source Protection Area. The proposed plan (SPP) will cover the water supply for the Municipal drinking water systems at Bare Point, City of Thunder Bay and Rosslyn Village, Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge within the Lakehead Source Protection Area.
The Source Protection Committee will be charged with developing three key documents: Terms of Reference, Assessment Report and Source Protection Plan over a proposed five-year term.
Composition of the Lakehead Source Protection Committee (SPC)
The Lakehead Source Protection Committee, by Regulation, consists of 10 Members including the Chair, plus a seat for a First Nation Member. The nine voting Members appointed by the Lakehead Source Protection Authority include three Municipal representatives, three from the "Industry/Economic" sector and three from the "Public & Other Interests" sector. First Nations are invited to name a representative to the Committee.
There are three non-voting Liaison Members assigned by the Ministry of Environment, the Source Protection Authority and a public health representative designated by the Ministry of Environment.
Bob Hartley has been appointed Chair of the Committee by the Minister of Environment on August 20, 2007.

The Lakehead Source Protection Authority completed its first task early this summer, recruiting the Committee Chair. Bob Hartley was appointed Chair of the Lakehead Source Protection Committee by the Minister of Environment on August 20, 2007.
